Building Custom & Recommended Events in Google Analytics 4
Google Analytics 4 (GA4) uses a new event-based data model, meaning that everything—every interaction, click, and scroll—is automatically reported as an event. Some events are automatically collected or accounted for in GA4’s enhanced measurement function.
Some events you want to track may not automatically be picked up by GA4. In these cases, you can set up your own custom events with their own parameters for virtually anything you want to track.
We developed this guide to walk you through how to use the Google tag to set up both recommended and custom event tracking for your website. Additionally, you’ll gain step-by-step instructions for:
- Creating a GA4 account and property
- Placing the Google tag on your website with Google Tag Manager
- Checking the health of your data
